Charity Website

Redesign a website for a charity organization, used for both promotion and donations.

The team, all together

Summary

I consulted with members of a small charity, Food for Orphans, to redesign their website, which was outdated both in design and in content. In addition to design work, I made changes regarding the types of pages and content that would appear, such as removing mentions to defunct programs and updating broken links. One of the biggest challenges was that I was required to use Squarespace, so that the site could be easily updated after I left. The constrained design capabilities of Squarespace meant meant I had to either learn workarounds, modify design choices, or scale back the design altogether. I am glad to say I believe we achieved all of our fundamental design goals in spite of any difficulties, and the challenge made the result all the more worthwhile.

Goal

Redesign the website for a charity to impress visitors, facilitate donations, and promote relevant news and opportunities. Manage an important donation promotion on the new site.

Process

I worked to improve or solve problems in a timeframe to discuss progress each week, and either pivot to new strategies or new problems for the next week.

Contribution

I was in charge of the overall website redesign, while stakeholders from the charity did work on branding and gave input on design decisions such as which types of pages were needed.

Before

The initial site made little use of contrast and didn't bring attention to the desired calls to action.

Main Page

The new design darkened the nav bar and made some use of the new color scheme.

Donations

The donation feature was moved to its own dedicated page, with different donation plans.
