Online Alcohol Marketplace
Design a new online marketplace app for alcohol, to compete with existing alcohol delivery apps.
Summary
I worked in a student team with our sponsor, Richard Pasquire, to design an online marketplace for alcohol to be delivered to your door, complete with event planning and recommendation systems. This required learning about how our target demographic purchased and consumed alcohol, what they looked for in a good purchase, how they shared with friends, etc. We developed task flows for the different features of the app and designed enough screens to demonstrate the app going through multiple task flows. At the end of the semester, our sponsor expressed his pleasure at our final design, adding that the iterative sprint process was helpful not just in getting everyone's ideas across, but also in giving him confidence in the project.
Goal
Create an interactive high-fidelity prototype of the desribed mobile app for presentation to potential financial backers.
Process
We worked in three-week sprints to be able to solicit quick and frequent feedback from our sponsor. Each sprint followed an approximate pattern of "Research, design, test". At the end of each of these sprints, we adjusted to what we learned from our testing and reviewed the new design with our sponsor. The in-person nature of these sponsor meetings was critical to our ability to suggest and combine ideas, and was a great opportunity to clear away any confusion that may have arisen during the sprint.
Contribution
I was the team lead for this project and led the team in working under a system of design sprints, a new concept for our academic cohort. It was my responsibility to advise design decisions and strategy while giving enough autonomy to the underclassmen for them to learn as they worked throughout the semester.
