App Redesign
Increase stories shared between users of theScore app
Summary
During the Spring semester of 2017, I had the privilege of working with theScore, helping them with their mobile application for sport news, with over three million monthly users. This was my first time working with an industrial partner in such a way. I worked with three others on the task of reworking their sharing process in an effort to gain more shares per app visit. We would need to develop an understanding of why users share information, both in the relevant app, and in general, as well as what design choices affected web sharing and how. Shortly after the conclusion of our project, theScore updated their mobile interface, including many of our suggestions into the new design.
Goal
Investigate the usability of theScore's sharing process and desvise changes to increase the number of stories shared between users of theScore app.
Process
Our team focused on primary and secondary research, preference testing and prototyping to inform our process. We first looked into the current literature on the psychology of sharing on generalized social media among our given user base. We also reviewed data on social media habits among our targeted user base. In an effort to glean some insight into successful app design strategies, the team evaluated competing apps and other analogous sharing platforms to see what they did right and wrong.
Contribution
I specifically conducted secondary research on ideal button shapes and location. To ensure accessibility, I researched proper colors and tested colorblindness filters on the existing application. I also conducted usability testing of different layouts and user preference testing of different design components for our overall redesign.
